The Colorado Railroad Historical Preservation Association is dedicated to the preservation of Colorado's cherished historic railroad treasures.
The long-term and short-term goals of the Association are to initiate, guide, and monitor local and state efforts to preserve railroading artifacts in the Centennial State.
Currently our goal is to ensure the continued operation of the internationally acclaimed narrow gauge steam operation, the Georgetown Loop.
A proposed change in operators of the Loop endangers the survival of steam railroading in this part of the Rocky Mountains.
The Association is initiating letters, e-mails and phone calls to the leadership of historical societies, government representatives, merchant associations and to the general public to clarify the impact of losing this local and national resource.
Compounding the loss of the Railroad would be the reduction of tourist dollars (some estimate at least $2 million in revenue) to the communities of Clear Creek County, with a ripple effect continuing to the Denver metropolitan area and beyond.
The government agency initiating the change in operators claims there will be an operable train for the Georgetown Loop in 2005. As of October 2004, no steam locomotive or passenger cars have been restored to anything resembling operating condition.
